Max grew up in Massachusetts, went to college in New Orleans, got his MFA in West Virginia and lives in New York.  He has trained with many wonderful teachers from the Actors Center, Michael Howard Studios, and the Joseph Chaikin Workshop.  He has studied clown and mask with Norman Taylor, Chris Bayes, Jim Calder, and Per Brahe.  

 Max played a leading role in the indie feature Upstate-- official selection at the LA Film Festival 2010, released through the Sundance Channel.  In the summer of 2010 he toured his play Daydream across the Canadian Fringe receiving four star reviews.  

In 2011, he directed Urinetown for the Brooklyn players- a new theater company in Park Slope.  That same spring he played Jimmy Stewart in New Jersey Rep's Puma which depicted the love triangle between Eric Maria Remarque, Marlene Dietrich, and Jimmy Stewart.

In the spring of 2012, he directed Into the Woods for the Brooklyn Players and finished his new play about the banking system.  In the fall of 2012, Max appeared in Susan Bernfield's Barking Girl (Chrysalis Theatre Company/New Georges) at 4th Street Theatre/New York Theater Workshop.  That winter he played in the off-the- wall comedy On the Rocks (Synapse Theatre Ensemble).  

In the summer of 2013, Max performed in Exodus Code --- a flashback to the heyday of Yiddish Vaudeville--- at The Flea Theater.  "The humor is played out in various vaudeville sketches by the talented and deft ensemble... moving and evocative." The Huffington Post.   

In 2014, Max perfomed in L'Chayim (by Gaspare DiBlasi, directed by Jesse Marchese) at Theater for the New City.   Then at Greenbrier Valley Theater he performed the title role in The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail.  In the spring of 2014, Max appeared in A Time-Traveller's Trip to Niagara at the Hudson Guild Theater.  

In the past years, Max has participated in several readings of established and emerging playwrights.  For two summers, he was part of the Writer's Bloc at NJ Rep- reading the work of five different playwrights over the course of one weekend.  Spinning off from that, he performed a reading of Writer's Bloc playwright Margaret Hunt's Loose Cannons at The Actors Studio, and then again at NJ Rep.    He participated in a developmental reading of Sam and Dede (or My Dinner with Andre the Giant) by Gino DiIorio also at NJ Rep.  Max read the title role in Frank Gagliano's The Private Eye of Hiram Bodoni at New Dramatists.  Following that, he read the multitrack male part in The Total Immersion of Madeleine Favorini at New Dramatists with Antoinette LaVeccia and Melanie Rey.  

He is featured in the hot new webseries Precious Cargo, and in another webseries soon to be released called Brokers.  This fall Max will reprise his role as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, and play Jamie in Long Day's Journey into Night.
